Mr. Kota’s practice involves all areas of intellectual property law, including IP litigation, IP counseling and patent and trademark prosecution. In particular, Mr. Kota represents both defendants and plaintiffs in a variety of patent, trademark, and copyright infringement cases throughout the United States before various federal district and appellate courts. 


Mr. Kota has over ten years experience litigating patent cases in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, software, mechanical and electric arts. Mr. Kota’s pharmaceutical patent experience includes handling Paragraph IV litigations under the Hatch-Waxman Act. Mr. Kota also has extensive experience handling patent interference matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including trying cases through the priority stage of interference as well as on appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and District Courts.


Mr. Kota also provides strategic counseling and licensing services to a wide variety of non-US and domestic clients, including conducting infringement and validity studies, performing investigations for in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities, and negotiating IP agreements. 


Mr. Kota also prosecutes and drafts patent applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical, materials science and mechanical arts.


Mr. Kota holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Bonaventure University (1999) and a Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School (2002). He is admitted to practice in Illinois, and in the USPTO. Mr. Kota is also admitted to the Federal Circuit and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
