Mr. Townsend is a registered patent agent with more than 30 years experience in preparing and prosecuting chemical, electrical and mechanical patent applications. Prior to joining Lowe Hauptman and Berner, Mr. Townsend was a patent agent with several prominent U.S. intellectual property law firms where he prepared and prosecuted complex patent applications relating to a wide variety of technologies. Mr. Townsend lived in Japan for 20 years and during this period was employed as a patent draftsman in the patent offices (boutiques) of ISP and International Industrial Information Inc. in downtown Tokyo. He was also retained as an external patent consultant for Nissan Motors at its Technical Center in Japan, advising on patent law and participating in the preparation of infringement opinions and related issues.

Mr. Townsend also worked for five years as a control/development chemist in chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Melbourne, Australia, following the award of his Diploma of applied chemistry in 1968 by Caulfield Technical College, Melbourne. He is fluent in Japanese.
