In Memoriam

Benjamin J. Hauptman
January 27, 1955 – December 12, 2025
Founder, Visionary, Mentor
With deep sorrow, we share the passing of Benjamin J. “Ben” Hauptman, founder of Hauptman Ham, LLP. Mr. Hauptman passed peacefully on the evening of December 12, 2025, while in Tokyo, Japan, where he lived for part of each year. His loss is felt profoundly within our firm and throughout the broader professional community he helped shape.
Mr. Hauptman was, above all, a man of vision. He never settled for what was but consistently looked toward what could be – seeking growth, progress, and new horizons for himself and for those around him. That forward-looking spirit defined his leadership and was foundational to the firm he built.
Through decades of practice and leadership, Mr. Hauptman established a firm grounded in excellence, integrity, and intellectual rigor. His entrepreneurial disposition and strategic insight guided Hauptman Ham from its earliest days and set a standard that continues to shape our work today. While some knew him as a mentor, others as a colleague, and many as a leader from a distance, his influence reached every corner of the firm.
Those who worked closely with Mr. Hauptman will remember his charisma, his curiosity, and his willingness to challenge others to think bigger, dig deeper, and push beyond complacency. He believed strongly in developing people – not just practices – and his mentorship left a lasting imprint on generations of attorneys and professionals.
A Life Beyond the Practice
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Hauptman lived a full and multifaceted life. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and someone who pursued his interests with the same enthusiasm and discipline that defined his career. A licensed pilot, author, and lover of art, he embraced lifelong learning and personal growth. He also found joy in quieter pursuits, including time spent fishing, an interest that reflected his appreciation for reflection, balance, and the outdoors.
Mr. Hauptman’s ability to balance an accomplished professional life with personal passions and family was a testament to the depth of his character and the intentional way he lived.
A Lasting Legacy
As we mourn his passing, we also honor the strength of the foundation he created. Hauptman Ham moves forward in growth and development guided by Mr. Hauptman’s vision, values, and long-standing commitment to excellence.
While we grieve, we are reminded that “weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Mr. Hauptman’s absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy endures – in the firm he founded, in the people he mentored, and in the values he instilled. We carry forward not only our memories of him, but also the example he set through his leadership, ambition, and unwavering belief in what comes next.
We celebrate the life of Benjamin J. Hauptman with gratitude, respect, and admiration. May we honor his legacy by striving to embody the very best of what he stood for.
An announcement will follow regarding a celebration of life gathering, anticipated to be held in Alexandria, Virginia, in January.
